Grady Armstrong Christmas Tree Lighting

A huge congratulations to Grady Armstrong, our very own fourth-grader from Hugh Gallaher Elementary, who won the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree essay contest! Grady traveled to Washington D.C. this past December for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity - to light the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree.

Accompanied by Smokey Bear and partners, Lt. Governor Stavros Anthony’s Rural Liaison, Garrett Tamagni, surprised Grady in his classroom at Hugh Gallagher Elementary school in September of 2025.

For the first time in its 55-year history, the “People’s Tree” came from the Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest and the state of Nevada. Grady read his winning essay alongside the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives during the official tree lighting ceremony in December.

The contest, sponsored by the Lt. Governor’s office, the Nevada Division of Outdoor Recreation, and the U.S. Forest Service, received 250 entries addressing the theme: "Starry Skies to Neon Lights: Spirit of the Silver State."

3rd Grade Stone Garden

Stone Garden!

Our 3rd graders worked so hard for this event. Researching, writing speeches and practicing and we are so very proud! Congrats 3rd grade on your wonderful presentations! Thank you Mrs. Dallas and the 3rd grade class! And thank you to all the fellow students, parents, and staff who supported them!

HGE Fun Run 2025

🎉🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️ What an amazing day at Hillside Elementary! Both of our elementary schools came together for the JogAThon/Fun Run — a high-energy fundraiser supporting our Student Activity Account at the elementary levels.

Students ran their hearts out on a 30-minute obstacle course, aiming to complete as many laps as possible. The best part? Getting sprayed with water while they ran! 💦😄

A *huge THANK YOU* to all our generous donors for sponsoring our kiddos — your support means the world and helps make these awesome events possible! 💙

We’re so proud of all the kids for their effort, teamwork, and enthusiasm. And big thanks to everyone who helped organize and cheer them on!
